Evac 2010
In the beginning of August Lahti organized the Worlds Masters Athletics Championships where Nyíregyháza introduced itself as the host of the next coming 17th European Veterans Athletics Championships. There is a big interest in next year's European Championships, more and more entries are coming in to the organizers and the participants in Lahti could have flipped through the first official brochures of the Event.
Dieter Massin, President of the European Veterans Athletic Association (on the right) and Csaba Máthé, Event Director have made the final decisions on the events and the timetable. Delegates from the EVAA will arrive to Nyíregyháza for a site visit at the end of October, where they can have a look at the newly furbished city stadium. The organization in Lahti was excellent; more than 5000 participants from 90 countries took part in the Masters WCh out of that more than 2000 participants were athletes of Finland. The Hungarian athletes won three gold, two silver and four bronze medals. Tamás Gajdos one of the prominent figures of the Veterans ECh in Nyíregyháza took part in the event, and his goal is to win a gold medal in 800 meters next year. The other face of the upcoming meeting will be the female mountaineer Anita Ugyan who after being the first Hungarian woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest is now planning to enter the marathons. Next to the common 35-90 age classes there will be an opportunity for age category 30-35 to enter some events in Nyíregyháza. Everyone who is member of an EVAA affiliated Federation can register for the Event!
